The automotive Spanish suppliers committed with the 2030 agenda

The establishment of this commission is part of the strategy launched by SERNAUTO to promote initiatives by Spanish automotive suppliers in pursuit of the goals of the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes 17 integrated and indivisible objectives with 169 targets spanning economic, social, and environmental spheres.

SERNAUTO's Responsible Business Strategy aims to achieve a dual objective: on one hand, to highlight all contributions made by both the association and the sector, and on the other hand, to support companies in addressing social and environmental challenges as opportunities for transformation.

To achieve these objectives, SERNAUTO has implemented actions on three fundamental axes: activities focused on raising awareness and supporting companies in the sector, initiatives aimed at connecting companies, initiatives, and institutions promoting sustainable development, and acting as an example and driver of actions internally within the association.

Presided over by one of SERNAUTO's vice presidents, Miguel López-Quesada, Director of Communication, Marketing, and Institutional Relations at Gestamp - a member company of our platform - the Responsible Business Commission of SERNAUTO is based on "collaborative work, aiming to be a meeting point between companies in the sector and a driver of projects, tools, and initiatives that allow member companies to implement or improve their sustainability strategies, with a focus on continuing to generate shared value and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals," according to López-Quesada.

At present, this commission includes leading automotive suppliers in this field, many of whom belong to our platform: Gestamp, Grupo Antolin, or Lizarte. However, more companies may join this structure as the project progresses.

The 2030 Agenda and the health emergency due to the pandemic

In September 2015, world leaders adopted a set of global goals to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda that sets 2030 as the deadline for achieving the targets set for each goal.

The contribution of all social actors, from public authorities to the private sector and civil society, is essential for achieving these goals.

The evolution of efforts focused on achieving the SDGs has been unfolding. However, this year, 2020, is likely to be a turning point in the work done in this regard. The reason? The global COVID-19 pandemic currently being experienced.

Both the UN and many experts predict that the global health emergency will have a significant impact on the 2030 Agenda. These impacts can be both positive, as in the case of the fight against climate change, and negative, especially regarding the decline in community health and the increase in inequalities due to the global economic slowdown.

Nevertheless, both Autoparts from Spain and SERNAUTO believe that we must continue working together, both to address the pandemic and to achieve the SDGs. Thus, the association will continue working towards the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda.
