Key trends in 2026 that will shape the future of the automotive components industry

The Spanish automotive components industry is facing a decisive year in 2026, driven by technological innovation, sustainability and the digitalisation of processes. Spanish suppliers grouped under the Autoparts From Spain platform—such as Antolin, Gestamp, ICER Brakes, RTS, Frenkit and Fersa Bearings—stand out for their ability to lead the transformation of the automotive sector and strengthen Spain’s presence in key European markets such as Germany, France and the United Kingdom.

“The Spanish automotive components sector is demonstrating a unique ability to adapt to technological change and the demands of European OEMs. Our suppliers not only manufacture high-quality parts, but also deliver automotive innovation and technology that is reflected in every European vehicle.”

R&D&I and digitalisation: the foundations of competitiveness

In 2024, Spanish suppliers invested €1.245 billion in R&D&I, representing 3% of the sector’s total turnover—well above the national industrial average.

This effort is driving projects focused on:

Thanks to these initiatives, Spain is consolidating its position as a benchmark for automotive innovation in Europe, offering products and solutions that meet the demanding requirements of the European market.

Electrification and sustainable mobility

The transition towards electric and hybrid vehicles remains one of the most significant trends for 2026. Companies such as Gestamp and Fersa Bearings are developing mechanical components and structures that increase the efficiency and reliability of electric and mechanical systems.

“Electrification not only transforms vehicles, but also the entire supply chain, positioning Spanish suppliers as strategic partners for European manufacturers,” explains Llamazares.

Connectivity and intelligent systems

Vehicle digitalisation and the growing demand for intelligent systems are driving innovation among suppliers such as Antolin, which develops smart panels, infotainment systems and electronic interior solutions.

These advances enhance safety, comfort and the user experience, reinforcing Spain’s leadership in advanced automotive technology.

“Our manufacturers create connectivity solutions that integrate the digital experience of vehicle occupants, making cars safer and more comfortable. This is real innovation already on European roads,” highlights Llamazares.

Braking systems, chassis and sustainable materials

Reducing vehicle weight, increasing efficiency and minimising environmental impact are key priorities for the sector. ICER Brakes, RTS y Frenkit develop braking systems, suspension components and mechanical kits manufactured using sustainable materials, in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal.

“Sustainability is no longer optional; it is a requirement to compete in Europe. Our suppliers combine technical performance with environmental commitment, adding value to every vehicle produced,” says Llamazares.

The development of lighter materials and more efficient production processes helps reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency and comply with the most stringent European regulations.

Industry 4.0 and automation

The adoption of industry 4.0 is transforming component manufacturing. Gestamp and RTS apply advanced robotics, digital manufacturing and automated quality control, ensuring precision, efficiency and rapid responsiveness to market changes.

Process digitalisation enables Spanish suppliers to produce complex components for the vehicles of the future, while maintaining high standards of quality and international competitiveness.

Exports and international outlook

Sector exports exceeded €25 billion, accounting for 60% of total turnover. Germany and France are the main destinations within the European Union, while the United Kingdom remains a key market outside the EU.

These figures reflect the strength and international reach of Spanish suppliers, consolidating their position as strategic players in European mobility. Industrial capacity combined with technological innovation allows Spain to supply critical components for the most advanced vehicles in Europe, from braking and suspension systems to electronic and connectivity solutions.

Autoparts from Spain stands out for its flexibility, resilience and high technological level, offering comprehensive solutions to European manufacturers and strengthening the global competitiveness of the sector.
